Quick stop by cake shop. Plenty options from bread to coffee and even birthday cake! They are well known with pork sung rolls and egg tarts. Drink menu is simple as store name - normal coffee add milk and sugar. Service "JUST" ok. The cashier kind of slow; hesitate and shy in communicating with customers. Nice clean store, good atmosphere, as some table for hanging out with friend. All 4 stars for their big bread cake selections and good nice clean store.! customer service need to be improved more!

I love this bakery!! I have to stop by this place every time I'm in San Mateo! My favorite is their pork sung bbs, which are mini cream filled sponge cakes with pork sung outside. I get it every single time!! I also enjoy their pork sung roll bun and egg tarts. I love their savory options and I feel like I can't get a lot of their items in other places. I have yet to try the hokkaido cream cup cake, but I've heard great things about it. My favorite bakery in the bay!

We were looking for a birthday cake for my dad and stumbled upon this shop in San Mateo. The ambiance is super cute--very similar to Sheng Kee Bakery, with lots of different pastries to choose from. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of the pastries, but they did have a small selection of cakes for us to choose from, as well as a variety of individual slices. Many people had ordered their cake ahead of time, so if you want a custom cake, I'd definitely recommend preordering and pick up. But if you didn't plan like us, the cakes on the top two shelves of the fridge at the front of the cafe were available to buy, you just have to talk to the cashiers. All the cakes had fruit toppings, some with the same fruit (we saw an entirely mango one) while others had a variety. For the insides, they had two cheesecakes (Uncle Tetsu-style) and some mousse cake. We ended up picking a mango mousse with a variety of fruits, and they gave us a free 'Happy Birthday' sign to go with it! The cashiers were very helpful and packaged the cake beautifully. The cake itself was expensive ($47 for an 8-inch cake) but we also dropped by Paris Bakery and the ones over there were even more. Buying a full cake from Simply Cake is probably marginally less expensive than buying an equivalent amount of individual slices (we estimated it to be $50 for around 10 slices vs $47 for an 8-inch cake). The cake itself was delicate and flavorful, the fruits were pretty fresh, and our entire family was very happy with the end result. I wouldn't say it's worth $47, but their mousse cake is definitely worth a try if you like the light, airy, not obscenely sweet taste of Asian-style cakes (versus a very heavy, sugary plain vanilla/chocolate cake you might get from Costco or Safeway). We (5 people) each ate one slice of cake and still had about half of the cake left over, so I'd say the cake is good for 8-9 people, 10 if everyone only has 1 slice. Yelp doesn't do half stars but if it did I'd say this is a 4.5 (not a complete 5 bc I would hesitate on going back because of the price but the cake itself was great)

First time at Simply Cake and I was surprised at all of the selection. A lot of breads and baked goods. The strawberry and blueberry mousse slices were good. Light and not sweet. Not eye gouging pricey either Service at the counter was nice. 10 cent bag fee for their paper bag. On a Wednesday night they still had a lot of stuff left. Will be back to try the other goodies.

Ran in to get a last minute cake the day of, didn't have much selection out (other than chocolate, chocolate, chocolate & a fruit cake), which is a good and bad thing -- good being that it probably means they make their cakes fresh so it's best to preorder them and schedule a pick up, bad because last minute people like me will wish that we should've called in for place an order. I ended up getting an 8" fruitcake, it was good. Can't go wrong with a simple fruit cake! & the fruits tasted super fresh & delicious! Store is small and cute. Workers there were friendly and answered all my questions. They also have baked goods like buns and other desserts that you can buy too!

I love their pastries! I always come for the bbq pork buns, the egg tarts, and some other speciality buns. I even had slices of their fresh fruit cakes, which are airy, soft, not too sweet frosting loaded and loaded fresh fruits! I somehow end up coming here almost every other weekend!

Pastries are 4 stars because they're pretty well-priced for being in DT SM, and the little details and ambiance bump it up to 5 stars. Service is generally friendly. I think it's nice that you get the candles, little plates, little forks, and a nice display cake box with a full cake. The actual cake design is traditional Chinese bakery style but they've modernized the packaging. Their logo is on all their stuff, and they don't skimp, including the coffee cups which have a super sturdy plastic lid that has a mechanism emulating reusable coffee cups. Hope they're raking it in like their wheat "S" logo suggests ($!). Definitely also appreciate the cleanliness of the place, available seating, and stable WiFi. I think the layout for getting pastries then going to the middle of the store away from the cash register feels a little counterintuitive and I'm still training my mind to get in line to center of the store after I loop around all the baked goods and the cash register is just right there. I'm always looking for spots with Hong Kong milk tea; Simply Cake's is solid. Well, their yin yeung is, anyway. HK milk tea is a specific craving and I don't know where else I'd find it in DT SM (a real version anyway, not the inauthentic versions that some boba places offer; before finding this HK milk tea here, I would just get a chai at Urban Momo). Their HK pineapple bun though is a bit too soft for me. The pineapple lava one is not a favorite either. I'll try the pineapple overload next. But the raisin milk bread was a pleasant surprise. It was sort of like a cocktail bun with raisins. Liked the ratio of filling and topping/crust. For the cake - I personally am partial to the dense, moist cakes like Susie Cakes but I come to Simply Cake for family functions. It's always a hit with folks that like Chinese bakery cakes (highest praise for cake being "not too sweet" of course), but Simply Cake edges out other bakeries because at family events we usually end up getting asked where the cake came from (in detail).

We came back again for another birthday! This time we ordered another mixed fruit cake! Honestly, they did not disappointed and we loved it as much as the first one we tried! The cake was moisted and not too sweet! The fruits were sweet and tasted great with the cake and the cream! This time, they served half a sweet mango on the top, which was pretty impressive with just the presentation. This time, we also picked up some pastries to try. It tasted great, but I have never seen another bakery charges baging fee for their individual breads/ small cake pastries. The charge was only 25 cents total, but I thought that was odd. How else were you supposed to take the pastries home?

Nice place. Not a lot of place to dine in, and it's mostly to go. It's a smaller version of Paris Baguette or Tour de Jours, but glad they have it available in DTSM. Busy during the weekend when I came, but lines moved quickly. Good selections of ready made cakes that are Asian style spongy type of cakes. Service was nice. Metered Parking at front. Cheers!
